How to Keep a Husky Coat Healthy Using Coconut Oil

How to Keep a Husky Coat Healthy Using Coconut Oil

One thing about living here in Texas is that if the humidity isn't making it hard to breathe, the heat is drying every bit of natural moisture out of your skin possible. With the heat being so tough on humans, I can only imagine how hard it has to be on my husky Luna who is covered in lots and lots of hair!

If your husky has dry skin, there are many things that can be done to help them out, this article is about how coconut oil can benefit them. Because some huskies do have skin problems, it is important to be prepared should your little pup show signs of discomfort. Coconut oil is a good solution for dogs, with natural properties that will provide lasting results.

There are a lot of benefits that coconut oil can provide for your dog starting with their skin and coat.
It can clear up eczema while relieving flea allergy flair ups, dermatitis and itchy skin.  Coconut oil can actually minimize doggy odor, which is not a big deal as most huskies tend to be low odor anyhow. It will leave your pups coat looking sleek and glossy too. When put on externally, coconut oil can actually help heal wounds, hot spots, bites and stings too!

Another benefit of coconut oils is that they can actually improve your huskies digestive system.  It helps pups to absorb nutrients, keeping them healthier. Coconut oil can help relieve symptoms related to colitis and inflammatory bowel syndrome as well. It will reduce bad breath and also help calm chronic coughing issues.

Adding some coconut oil to your huskies diet can assist with weight loss, balance insulin and promote a healthy thyroid function too.  It will help to prevent infection and disease, making it an ideal addition to your pups diet.

For storage, the coconut oil should not be refrigerated, it will get hard if kept there. Keeping the coconut oil at room temperature will keep it solid enough to work with yet pliable too.

There are a couple ways that you can provide coconut oil safely for your pet. To address the dry, flaky skin issues you can actually apply the oil straight to your huskies coat and skin. Just take a small amount, and rub it right into their fur.

For the other added dietary benefits you can add coconut oil to their food as a supplement. Be sure to start them off with small doses and work up to a regular amount or they could get diarrhea or greasy stools.

1/4 teaspoon for pups and small dogs is an ideal amount to begin with and work up to about 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight a day.

So if you are wanting to ensure that your husky has a healthy coat and soft skin, no matter what weather conditions you live in, try giving them some coconut oil!!!
